Following Google’s recent announcements, the internet is moving steadily toward guaranteeing the security of online communications. Until now, the primary mechanism for this has been SSL certificates. But a promising new option may be on the horizon.
VirnetX Holding Corporation announced this week the granting of a patent called “Agile Network Protocol for Secure Communications with Assured System Availability.” The technology could enable several applications, including simple and secure communication over the network via audio, video, and instant messaging.
The initiative could have a significant impact on domains and digital certificates, since it would add an extra layer of security by default to domain names and simplify the management of companies’ digital identities, bringing together the best of both worlds.
